June 26, 2016 - one week until departure. bikes are ready. Inspected at Thunder Bikes in Port Jefferson Station. Tony has a new bike for this trip, a new Road Glide. Ill be riding my 07 Road Glide that i rode in 2014. As you may recall we made the round trip to Alaska in 2014, 2 weeks after I learned how to ride at age 65. Last summer we went to Newfoundland. Since the ride to Alaska and the scenery was so epic we are going back. Another difference this year - Ginny and Patricia are flying to Alaska and will spend a week with us touring Alaska. Then they will fly home and we'll ride back.
We plan to Leave at 5am on July 2, and are attempting to ride 1000 miles that day, to a destination in Iowa. If we do that we'll get the coveted Iron Butt Award, which is earned by riders completing 1000 miles in 24 hours. Hopefully the weather and traffic and our butts cooperate.
Heres the approximate route we plan to take. Day 1 goal is to ride to Iowa. Stay tuned. ill post our adventures as we progress each day.
